We are offering a unique opportunity to take a leadership role in the rehabilitation of a world class copper project that shows the potential to have an immediate impact on the global production scene. This client has the wherewithal and financial backing to fast track this project into operation and take advantage of the burgeoning world demand for copper


Reporting to the Project Manager the incumbent will be the Client's representative to ensure the plant and processes are fit for purpose, commissioned on time, to budget.





  •  Act as Metallurgical Expert for a copper/cobalt roast-leach-electrowin process.
  •  Provide a proactive timely and cost effective service to the project management team on all matters related to metallurgical process design and engineering whilst meeting legislation requirements and driving business goals.
  •  Approve all metallurgy conceptual and detailed process controls, fabrication, and construction designs including major process/operations equipment selection.
  •  Ensure process design meets all regulatory, and company, occupational health and safety, and environmental, requirements.
  •  Achieve / exceed metallurgical performance targets and parameters set in the budget by
  •  Resolving and improving key process issues.
  •  Monitoring the development and implementation of the Process Plant Design.
  •  Initiating and planning the implementation of long-term process improvement projects.
  •    Act as Owner's Representative overseeing engineering and construction sub-contractor work.



  •  A bachelor's degree in metallurgical, chemical or process engineering
  •  Professional Engineering designation - would be advantageous.
  •  Extensive metallurgical project management experience, with a minimum of 15 years experience in a role of similar scope and magnitude.
  •  A strong base metal background with hands-on experience in roast-leach-electrowin, ideally from process plant inception to advanced operations phases.
  •  Experience as overseer / employee of major engineering and construction contractors
  •  Pragmatic commercial acumen.
  •  An innate ability to work collaboratively with others.
  •  International experience is preferred.



The position will initially be based in Johannesburg with travel to remote site. After the project phase is complete the incumbent can move over to operations. Qualified candidates will be rewarded with a comprehensive and highly competitive remuneration package.
