Construction Manager- Alumina

Reporting directly to the Project Director you will carry accountability for the establishment and leadership of a construction project team capable of reviewing, approving, and monitoring the efforts of Contractors, major equipment suppliers, vendors, and consultants involved in the construction of facilities at various project locations to ensure that the project meets the criteria, budgets, schedules, and is ready for commissioning and performance testing.



  • Defines the construction strategy and common construction program procedures for approval by the Project Director.
  • Ensures quality and safety in construction at all facility locations.
  • Provides overall project construction co-ordination of activities at the facilities at the various project locations.
  • Maintains uniform construction standards in all project locations.
  • Manages the budget for the construction project team.
  • Provides field engineering support to assure construction efforts meet project criteria and technical issues are resolved among the owners engineering and consulting and Contractor representatives in a timely manner.
  • Ensures all Contractors involved in construction activities implement and execute their approved QC Programs, including provision of required documentation.
  • Monitors, on an ongoing basis, construction cost and schedule performance against contract requirements and reports on a periodic basis to the Project Director.
  • Reviews and approves construction reporting of Contractors and other construction service providers.
  • Reports to the Project Director all project critical concerns and difficulties encountered in cost and schedule and participates in their resolution with the Project Director.
  • Ensures construction activities meet project criteria and verify areas defined by the work breakdown structure are ready for turnover for commissioning.
  • Provides co-ordination of construction support to commissioning and start-up.
  • Ensures complete and proper demobilization and work close-out of Contractor construction activities



  • - Minimum BS degree in mechanical, civil or electrical engineering. Advanced engineering degrees in related areas or MBA will count towards required experience.
  • - Minimum of fifteen years full time experience in international industrial design, and construction; and five years experience in related management/supervisory activities of international construction.
  • - Supervision of heavy construction design engineers operations, maintenance and administrative managers.
  • - Knowledge of electric power generating Project equipment, operations, and maintenance.
  • - Strong interpersonal and leadership skills for frequent interactions with supervisors, employees, outside vendors, community representatives and regulatory agencies.
  • - Demonstrated understanding of financial planning and management.
  • - Preparation/administration of safety and compliance programs.
  • - Maintaining compliance with agencies and utilities.
  • - Power Project performance tracking.
  • - Preparation and monitoring of estimates, budgets and schedules.
  • - Preparing and administering international/domestic contracts and purchase orders.
  • - Preparation of design drawings and engineering calculations.
  • - Construction and equipment maintenance.
  • - General knowledge of governmental standards.
  • - Staff performance reviews.
  • - E-mail communications, spreadsheet, word processing and other computer skills.
