We are offering a unique opportunity to take a leadership role in the rehabilitation of a world class copper project that shows the potential to have an immediate impact on the global production scene. This client has the wherewithal and financial backing to fast track this project into operation and take advantage of the burgeoning world demand for copper.

The General Manger will manage the restart and ultimate operation of a multi site copper /cobalt operation (3 open pits, underground mine, associated plants and infrastructure) producing up to 150,000 tpa of copper with a work force consisting of over 2000 national employees and over 30 expatriates.



  •  Maintain a close working relationship with the Project Manager and project development team through the restart and four year development plan.
  •  Develop and lead an interdisciplinary team of professionals highly committed to actively working together in the achievement of production goals. Team will consist of mining, metallurgical, engineering, plant, finance, commercial, and HSE and training services managers.
  •  Establish and maintain excellent relations with local community government and regulatory authorities.
  •  Develop a plan that will ensure budgeted production can be efficiently achieved.
  •  Manage and coordinate operations, maintenance, quality control and engineering to achieve required tonnage and product grade specifications.
  •  Ensure compliance with all applicable statutory requirements.
  •  Manage the expenditure of operating and capital budgets to ensure the efficient and cost effective operation of the mining department.
  •  Mining Contractor Management.
  •  Promote a culture of awareness and commitment to safe working practices amongst all employees, which will enable a healthy and accident-free working environment.


  •  Degree in Metallurgy or Mine Engineering.
  •  Over 20 years mining experience, with a minimum of 5 in a Senior Mine Management role.
  •  Previous experience of developing /operating copper mines in a third world environment would be preferred
  •  Proven track record of meeting agreed performance targets
  •  Ability to manage and motivate a diverse expatriate and national team.
  •  Success managing projects through feasibility, development cycle.
  •  Ability to communicate in the French language would be a definite asset.
  •  Good analytical background, and commercial acumen
  • Team player, excellent communication skills, astrong motivator with leadership skills, stamina anddrive


Qualified candidates will be rewarded with a comprehensive and highly competitive expatriate remuneration package. The position will be open to married status but will initially be single status whilst the expatriate community facilities are being developed.
