We are offering a unique opportunity to take a leadership role in the rehabilitation of a world class copper project that shows the potential to have an immediate impact on the global production scene. This client has the wherewithal and financial backing to fast track this project into operation and take advantage of the burgeoning world demand for copper.

Reporting to the General Manager Operations the Training Director will develop a nationalization plan.  Assess the needs of large national workforce and plan and design training policies and activities accordingly. Manage external consultants hired for Learning and Development activities. Plan, design, and supervise the construction of the training facilities. Record training policies and procedures to meet company and government requirements.


  •  Keep abreast of new developments in training and incorporate into programs as required.
  •  Recommend changes to training programs /or change in focus.
  •  Identify problem areas arising from poor performance impacting on training.
  •  Develop specific plans for learners.
  •  Assess each trainee prior learning and competencies in terms of training schemes.
  •  Recommend the most appropriate training institution by considering nature and size of target population.
  •  Design, develop or modify the content and methodology of training programs in line with needs identified.
  •  Prepare and implement the delivery of training.
  •  Monitor and evaluate presentations done by subordinates and take appropriate action.
  •  Uses standard training audit procedure
  •  Conduct workshops and other group sessions using facilitation techniques.
  •  Conduct pre course tests as appropriate to assess current knowledge levels.
  •  Assess reaction of course delegates (questionnaires and observation).
  •  Measure acquisition of knowledge by post course tests.
  •  Assess application of learning and skills in the job situation by observation/ check lists.
  •  Plan and schedule training programs and control training budget expenditure.
  •  Prepare regular reports on training results, numbers trained, specific problems etc. and present to management with recommendations.



  •  Appropriate Technical Qualifications in field of specialization.
  •  10 years of technical training management experience.
  •  Experience with competency-based training
  •  Previous experience in Africa and the mining industry would be preferable.
  •  Ability to communicate in French & English.
  •  Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  •  Proven ability to interact and work with, as well as train individuals from a different culture, religion and language.

Qualified candidates will be rewarded with a comprehensive and highly competitive expatriate remuneration package. The position will be open to married status but will initially be single status whilst the expatriate community facilities are being developed.
