We are offering a unique opportunity to take a leadership role in the rehabilitation of a world class copper project that shows the potential to have an immediate impact on the global production scene. This client has the wherewithal and financial backing to fast track this project into operation and take advantage of the burgeoning world demand for copper.

Reporting to the Project Manager the Technical Specialist Mining will be the client's representative to ensure all underground and open pit development is optimized and work is commissioned on time, to budget.


  •  Act as the mining expert for both open pit and underground operations and provide a proactive, timely, and cost effective service to the project management team on all matters related to mine development.
  •  Responsible for the maintenance of a cost effective and efficient service of technical and planning support, ensure that Life Of Mine planning requirements are met whilst maintaining environmental legislation and driving business goals.
  •  Provision of technical expertise and management control in the key areas of grade control, geotechnical engineering, ventilation, mine planning, scheduling and survey, tailings dam engineering and statutory reserve estimation.
  •  Develop and implement strategies to achieve both short and long term production targets. Ensure best practice throughout all mining engineering disciplines.
  •  Oversee and optimize mine development studies.
  •  Act as Owner's Representative overseeing engineering and construction sub-contractor work.


  •  Relevant recognized degree qualification in mine engineering or geology.
  •  Demonstrated prior experience in a Technical Services Management role or similar.
  •  At least 10 years of experience with multiple facets of underground and open pit mining.
  •  Experience reopening or rehabilitating mining operations.
  •  Ability to provide technical leadership with a practical mind.
  •  An absolute commitment to maintaining the highest safety, health and environmental standards.
  •  Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  •  Ability to build strong relationships to achieve positive outcomes, a true team player.
  •  International experience is preferred.

The position will initially be based in Johannesburg with travel to remote site. After the project phase is complete the incumbent can move over to operations. Qualified candidates will be rewarded with a comprehensive and highly competitive remuneration package.
